2021 R&D Travel Mug, Cup, Tumbler History and Stainless Steel Industrial Development

Tumblers and mugs every where is seeing nowadays, stainless steel and glass is most common, but you know in age-old times, what is the tumbler made of?

The earliest mugs date back to the prehistoric Neolithic Stone Age and were made out of bone and had no handles. The oldest mugs suspected of being from this era were also made of wood, but the wooden mugs have proven to be much harder to preserve. After millennium development, people gradually manufacture vessel by using clay or metal, when is the modern civilization began.

Stainless steel is a group of ferrous alloys that contain a minimum of approximately 11% chromium,[4]: 3 [5] a composition that prevents the iron from rusting and also provides heat-resistant properties.[4]: 3 [5][6][7][8] Different types of stainless steel include the elements carbon (from 0.03% to greater than 1.00%), nitrogen, aluminium, silicon, sulfur, titanium, nickel, copper, selenium, niobium, and molybdenum.[4]: 3  Specific types of stainless steel are often designated by their AISI three-digit number, e.g., 304 stainless.[9] The ISO 15510 standard lists the chemical compositions of stainless steels of the specifications in existing ISO, ASTM, EN, JIS, and GB (Chinese) standards in a useful interchange table. – Abstract by Wikipedia

Not likely other metal material, heavy, high cost and not-stable (chemical property), stainless steel cup has the feature of cost-effective, stable and safety. Widely applied to drinkware, medical, laboratory etc. It proves that market accepted the stainless steel as it’s beautiful outlooking and clean-easy. It has out-performed more traditional competing materials such as copper, aluminium, and carbon steel.

Stainless steel,  aluminium and enmal cup is mostly common drinkware for modern life. Among these material, stainless steel cup is the most ordinary drinkware, they made of double wall and vacuum structure, can keep water hot and drinks cold. In earlier time, one of UK people had discovered ‘rustless’ steel, proved they have many prior attempts. Brearley has been credited with inventing the first true stainless steel, which had a 12.8% chromium content. He had added chromium to molten iron to produce a metal that did not rust. Chromium is a key ingredient, as it provides the resistance to corrosion. After this discovery, Sheffield itself became synonymous with steel and metallurgy.

Today, China is the largest country exported stainless steel, and most stainless steel made tableware, such as straws, spoon, pot, blow, dishes, travel mugs and tumblers etc. With the increasing of stainless steel usage, China export share will reach steady increase. More and more stainless steel and new material will develop.

With the development of stainless steel and new material, the industrial will be prosperous landscape.
